How do you ignore one of your coworkers gossiping bad things about you?

When a new coworker talks smack about you behind your back with other coworkers, what do you do? They purposely ignore you and roll their eyes at you in front of customers. And they act as if you are wrong about everything and their right even though their new? Then you get in trouble by the manager for no reason! Is that right?

  1. i know this sounds all oprah-ish(sorry if you're an oprah fan) but talk to your manager. if he hates you, then just quit and find a better job. that's what my friend did even though he was the manager of Crown Imports for the whole pacific division. he quit because he didn't exactly love his boss, and now he's fine, i guess. not poor, not rich(before he was but not now) he makes enough to support his family and spend a little extra...lucky him!
  2. People usually talk about other people when they're jealous. You must do a good job (better than him/her) and he/she feels the need to point out your "short-comings" if any. The deal is, you just do your best on the job, people will see it. Be yourself, be honest and trustworthy. Don't talk bad about that person because then you're like him/her. People realize that this person does this and it's inappropriate. They also are wondering if that same person talks about them, too! If you don't talk bad about people, they'll trust you and see that you're a good person, a hard worker and that you're honest. They won't believe what this other person said. He/she is not making a good name for him/her self and will eventually be the one with the "bad reputation". Talk to the manager and simply say that you don't know why ____________ says these things about you but that they are not true. And that you're doing your best to ignore the rumors and you would hope that the manager do the same. Tell the manager if he/she ever has a question about whether something he/she has heard, feel free to ask! And make it clear that you don't plan on defending every negative comment, or retaliating and that it won't effect your work! Hope this helps!

  5. I have a 3 step process for you, Before you start you might want to find out what your notice period is. Step 1 > Try to talk to the new co-worker first, if you get nowhere Step 2 > arrange a private meeting with your supervisor & if he/she seems to ignore you take it up to the next level you manager, If they choose not to pursue this issue or believe you & think you are wasting their time Step 3 > Put your CV on the net & start applying for other jobs You can do step 3 before Steps 1 & 2 as you may get a better job offer then what your doing now anyway. Once you find a better job & sign the new contact hand in your notice to the old job & resign notice period probably be between a week & a month depending on responsibility's of the role
